traffic bottlenecks in Bellenden Road

Contributor's name:

The traffic island outside the shops is in the wrong postion. The road is too narrow, and it is too close to the bus stop. It causes a dangerous build up of traffic where people are crossing the road. It is also close to the dangerous junction with Chadwick Road. The cars and buses coming out of Chadwick Road are not fully visible to the traffic coming along Bellenden Road which is often speeding.  It all needs redesigning.

TRAFFIC IN CHADWICK ROAD

Chadwick Road suffers from having so much local traffic funelled down it by the one-way system. During rush hours it becomes a traffic jam and when it's clearer cars go down it at terrifying speeds one after another; it becomes like a racetrack - very scary for children/older people and pets! I've seen slightly raised and paved areas used very effectively in East Dulwich to cool the traffic down, and Southwark are about to do this to the entire street outside my daughter's school near London Bridge, where they have identical traffic difficulties to Chadwick Road. I wonder whether this could be done here? Traffic bumps don't really help as instead of the constant speeding you get people revving up wildly between them, and the noise is if anything worse. In fact, it would be brilliant to have the raised/paved arrangement applied to the shop parade of Bellenden Road as well - it would give it a united visual identity and make it much safer. And while I'm at it, could we have a green public square in the huge carpark at the top of Chadwick Road, which is only heavily used on Saturdays? It would be a fabulous public amenity, specially for those local residents with children and without gardens.
